Metal-Men Spill It:
What is the most important part of having a show like the mosh pit on air?
Stokes: There are not a lot of metal radio shows in general, so the fact that we have our very own at ISU to spread the word about the latest and greatest metal cause the genre is not highly commercialized.
Thrasher: People need to be exposed to one of the greatest genres of music. The metal genre is not the prettiest at times or the most promoted but you really can’t find more talented musicians in any other genre. In my opinion we need to move listeners away from over produced no talent hacks and lead them toward the skill and power of metal.
What is so great about metal?
Stokes: It is some of the most technical, and yet at the same time artful music ever to be made. It has one of the most loyal fan bases you will ever find. It has been around longer than just about any other genre out there.
Thrasher: Metal is a genre about performance, theory, and yes plenty of attitude. Every member of every band is dedicated to being the best at their instrument. Every member pushes their instrument or voice to the limit. The guitarists shred, the singers belt, scream, and growl, and the drummers destroy. Metal is also a great way out of a stressful state of mind. My motto is I listen to music with screaming so that I don’t have to. |
